This is a book about loss. In an average day, I lose my scissors, my car keys, my grocery list, my patience and my mind. In an average life, almost all of us are destined to lose our way, our bearings, our youth, our hearts and our heads.

With these words, Anne Hines, whose books, columns and articles have had Canada laughing since “HineSight” first appeared in Canadian Living in 1998, launches readers on an unpredictable, sometimes hilarious, often touching exploration into the nature of loss in our lives and the unexpected gifts that come to us as a result. Drawing on the wisdom of scholars and sages as well as her own reflection on events, Hines taes us through the twists and turns presented by her own life, told with star honesty and candour. Through divorce, depression, the fears brought on by aging, and even the event of losing a son (who became a daughter), Hines assures us that life always has a brighter side and that with every loss in life, something real and remarable is there to be gained, no matter what ind of loss we ourselves may encounter.

  1. Hello Anne !
I am Jim Walls’ wife. Jim is a member of ‘Back of the Bus”, the Celtic group that will be performing in Birsay this weekend. Naturally, I am very fond and proud of the band, and have been a big fan of their talent since they began their ‘musical talents’ as a group a few years ago.
However, I have been delighted to read your web-site, and learn of the books you have written. I am indeed looking forward to meeting you on Sunday!! I work as a teacher and resource centre facilitator in North Battleford at the Regional Northwest Community College. I am always trying to get new material, novels, Canadian authors in for our adult students.
All the best in your ‘new adventure’ in Saskatchewan, Anne!! It must truly indeed be such a big culture shock living here in small town Saskatchewan, compared to living in Toronto !! …I’ve enjoyed reading your ‘blog’ !! I have indeed enjoyed learning about your books. !!
    All the best!

    See you on Sunday !!
